Post-Operative Instructions: Full Mouth Dental Implant Surgery

Bleeding & Gauze – Some bleeding or pink saliva is normal for the first 24 hours
Bite firmly on gauze for 45–60 minutes at a time. Replace as needed.
If bleeding continues, place fresh gauze or a damp tea bag over the area and apply pressure for another hour.
Avoid spitting, rinsing, or using straws for 24 hours.
Swelling & Bruising
Expect swelling for 48–72 hours.
Apply ice packs on and off (20 minutes on, 20 minutes off) for the first 24 hours.
Keep your head elevated when resting or sleeping.
Pain Management
Take prescribed medication as directed.
OTC ibuprofen or acetaminophen may be used if approved.
Manage pain proactively for the first 48 hours.
Antibiotics
Take exactly as directed until finished.
Oral Hygiene
Do not brush surgical sites for 7 days.
Brush natural teeth gently.
Start warm saltwater rinses after 24 hours, 4–5 times daily.
Use prescription rinse if provided.
Diet – Soft diet only for at least 2 weeks.
Avoid chewing on surgical areas.
Recommended: yogurt, smoothies (no straws), soup, eggs, mashed potatoes, pasta, soft fish.
Avoid spicy, crunchy, hard foods and alcohol.
Activity
Limit activity for 48–72 hours.
Avoid strenuous exercise, bending, or lifting.
Stitches & Temporary Teeth – Stitches may dissolve unless instructed otherwise.
If you received a temporary prosthesis, avoid biting into firm foods and do not adjust it yourself.
Smoking & Vaping
Avoid for at least 1–2 weeks due to high implant failure risk.
When to Call
Uncontrolled bleeding
Severe or worsening pain after 3 days
Fever over 101°F
Sudden swelling after improvement
Pus or bad taste from site
